What has to be settled before an AI project

In short
Four points: a concrete task instead of a technology, the data it works with, a person who checks the results, and – if funding is an option – the application before the project starts.
1. A task, not a technology
"We want to use AI" is not a project. "Draft offer texts from notes, in three languages" is one: measurable, checkable, bounded.
2. The data behind it
Which documents does the task need, where are they, and who may see them? This is where it becomes clear whether order has to come first – and it is the most common reason projects take longer than planned.
3. The person who checks
A result without a check is a risk. Name beforehand who checks and how much time that costs. That time is part of the calculation.
4. Funding, if it is an option
Luxembourg offers support programmes for small and medium-sized companies that can cover digitalisation and AI projects. Three rules apply:
- A preliminary analysis is usually part of the application.
- The application belongs before the start of the project.
- Approval is never guaranteed – plan the project so that it works without funding as well.
The current programmes, rates and the date they were checked are in the funding section of this site, with the source.
A realistic schedule
Assessment and decision in weeks, setup in days, learning the checking steps in weeks. The longest part is never the technology.
What you can do now
Write your first task as one sentence that names a result. With that sentence everything else can be planned – without it, nothing can.
